M. V. Dhurandhar
Dhurandhar, a painter and postcard artist from the colonial era, is a legendary name in the world of Indian modern art with thousands of paintings and illustrations to his credit. This project had the team restoring 26 artworks by the revered artist which came to the studio in a damaged state in June 2018.
These works belonged to a range of mediums – oleographs, lithographs, canvas to watercolours and graphite on paper. All the works on paper had similar issues of termite holes, tears, weak and missing corners, foxing stains and residue of tapes and adhesives.
A project with a quick turnaround deadline, these 26 works were restored by the team within a month. The processes included removal of old mount boards and tapes used for hinging, mending of weak areas and corners, inlaying lost areas with compatible material, flattening of
the artworks, minimizing foxing stains, strip lining on the edges for strength and reintegration with pigments wherever required.
